Jen Mastalerz, Partner
With Bennett Compost since July 2016
Jen moved to Philadelphia from rural Maryland in 2000 to attend Drexel University for architecture. After graduating and working in the field for several years she felt a pull towards urban agriculture, left architecture and landed in Philadelphia's compost scene in 2010. She began driving a truck for Philly Compost and picking up organics from businesses around Philadelphia. She started a composting cooperative in her neighborhood, Fishtown, and eventually left Philly Compost to start her own business using bicycle collections. Jen joined forces with Bennett Compost in 2016. She now spends most of her days helping manage Bennett Compost's team, managing internship programs with several CTE high schools, managing Bennett's partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Prisons and working on ways to expand composting in Philadelphia.
